Details and the Agenda

 

Assistance to Gifted Children

  • A violin was presented to a young violin player
  • Assistance was provided to a young pianist to participate in an international competition held in Italy (2000)
  • A Pentium computer with a CD containing 850000 chess combinations (1999) were presented to Tigran Petrosyan, 14-year old chess champion of the world to, help him train intensively

Assistance to Vulnerable Families

  • Assistance was provided to residents of Gavar city (2005-06)
  • Assistance was provided to residents of the homes for the elderly during the Easter celebration period
  • Children from vulnerable families of Lori Marz were involved in the production of agricultural goods through a project called Noyan Tapan. They were provided with domestic animals to take care of and reproduce (under a joint project implemented by UNICEF, UMCOR and the US Rotary Clubs)
  • In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Gyumri a project entitled “Warm Winter” was implemented and 2500 children without parents, from vulnerable families, received winter shoes and warm clothing locally produced in Gyumri
  • Visits were made to women and children's prisons where entertainment was provided by Ruben Hakhverdyan and a Dance Band. Gifts were presented to young prisoners on Easter Day
  • School supplies were provided to a prison school
  • Warm winter shoes and personal hygiene supplies were provided to all young prisoners
  • A Charity Concert was organized at “The Hall for Chamber Music” and funds raised were used to help sick children.

Training Courses

  • A 5-month study tour for one student studying International Law was organized to France
  • In order to study the environmental protection problem of Lake Se-van B. Gabrielyan, candidate of natural sciences was sent to Scotland for a 12-month training course with an Embassy Scholarship
  • In collaboration with the organization “Junior Achievements” the higher grade students were taught new economic relations
  • The book Civil Society: Road to Democracy was published
  • For over 3 years assistance was provided to organize summer camps and training in Tsakhkadzor for children who were winners in the last stage of a competition organized by “Junior Achieve-ments” (in collaboration with the US Rotary Clubs, 1998-2001)
  • Two YERAZ 3218 minibuses were provided to the project “Cultural Heritage to Adolescents of Armenia” (this project commenced in 1999 and successfully operated for 3 years) with the assistance of the members of the A.R.A. French-Armenian Rotary. Part of the funds raised were allocated for the implementation of the project “Our Yard” (construction of children's playgrounds, 2001-2006)
  • A specialist in prosthetics was sent to France to strengthening his knowledge and practice
  • In collaboration with “Junior Achievements” four classrooms were computerized in Ararat Marz (also in collaboration with the US Rotary Club)
  • A 10-grade student of the Armenian-Argentine school was sent to Argentina to improve his language skills
  • The school of Karin Tak, NKR was furnished with 120 sets of desks and chairs. In addition the office of the Director and the Teachers Common Room were refurbished. Books and school supplies were provided to 1st up to 4th grade children and the school library was updated. A playground was constructed for kindergarten children and 50 children were provided with warm clothing, shoes and toys (in collaboration with Interact Club)
  • Beds for 80 children, 18 tables and 72 chairs were provided to the Shushi Kindergarten, NKR

Health Care Sector

  • Children under 3 were vaccinated against poliomyelitis in the framework of the International Rotary POLIO+ project:
    Stage 1 - 1998 | Stage 2 – 1999 | Stage 3 - 2000
  • With the help of the Rotary Club over 250000 children were immunized free of charge. Armenia is considered as free of poliomyelitis since 2002
  • International standard of child rehabilitation training was provided (in collaboration with Swedish Zurich Limmattal Rotary Club and VAD)
  • Seven-month projects were organized in children's playgrounds (four in Yerevan, one in Gyumri) under the umbrella for development and training of children using games brought from Switzerland and with the help of specially trained instructors
  • Four wards of the children's section of the Cancer Center were renovated and a TV was presented for use in a play room with the support of Club members and partially a US Rotary Club (La Grange)
  • In collaboration with the US Rotary Club La Grange 18000 me-dical check-ups were carried out involving. This was conducted in the framework of the project “Early Cancer Discovery” (2001)
  • With the assistance of the members of the Rotary Club of France radiotelephones were provided for 3 ambulance cars in the remote regions of Armenia
  • With the joint efforts of VAD and the Rotary Club of Switzerland psychological assistance was provided to children suffering from leukemia and their parents
  • A children's recreation area and a playground were created, in collaboration with Interact Club, for children in long term care, at the Children's Unit of the National Center of Oncology.
  • A Pentium computer was presented to the Children's Unit of the ROA Cancer Center
  • Free treatment, by highly qualified American specialists, was provided at the Children's Ophthalmologic Clinic (2002-2003) and free equipment was provided in the framework of the international project “Rota Vision”
  • Modern sonographic equipment was presented to the Armenian-American University Center of Mammography (US Rotary Club)
  • An ambulance minibus was presented to the hospital of Martuni region, NKR including all the required medical utilities, pharmaceuticals and equipment (US Rotary Club)
  • For over ten years free medical supplies and equipment were provided to health care facilities (Rotary Club of Laconia, USA). Wheelchairs were provided to the NGOs Astghik, Pyunik, and others
  • Eye surgery equipment was presented to the Clinical Hospital #8 (Rotary Club of Czechia)
  • With the participation of the company Schwarzkopf & Henkel a medical check-up of children from refugee and socially vulnerable families was carried out
  • Priority need and hygiene supplies were provided free to the Yerevan house for the elderly (in collaboration with the club Anahit)
  • Medical equipment, glasses (in cost of $100.000) jointly with French Rotarians and Lions club were provided to Armenian medical institutions and beneficiaries (2006)

Social Sector

  • Within the framework of the project “Our Yard” three playgrounds were constructed in three districts, and four more are in the process of completion (with the support of US Rotary Clubs and quarter municipalities, 1999-2004)
  • Playing and recreational areas were created for kindergarten children (kindergarten # 96, 2003)

Tasks achieved during the Centennial year

  • Wheelchairs were provided to all children with disabilities, throughout Armenia, if they needed them
  • We distributed 2000 English dictionaries to the members of the Assyrian community in Armenia
  • Winter clothes were distributed to needy groups in celebration of the New Year
  • An Ultra sound machine and other equipment were donated to Martouni Regional Hospital
  • Eleven bicycles were donated to the Spitak YMCA of Spitak and it is planned to donate a van in the near future
  • Two specially adapted wheelchairs with toilets were donated to “Grigor Lousavoritch” medical centre and it is planned that two ambulances will be donated in the near future
  • Ten computers were presented to two schools, Ljashen of Sevan region and Armavir's No.1
  • William Thackeray's “Vanity Fair” was translated into Armenian. The money raised by the sales of this book funded open heart surgery for seven vulnerable people in Yerevan
  • With Rotary Club volunteers and funds the 100th house of “Habitat for Humanity” was built in April
  • Through our Club's efforts Armenian volunteer doctors have gone to Bangladesh and Jamaica
  • A special team of US Rotarians will perform free eye surgery, in Yerevan
  • A mobile dental unit will be donated in May (and this will be the second such unit)
  • In May two young Armenians will travel to Copenhagen, to participate in the Conference “Democracy without Borders”, organized by the Kongens Lyngby Rotary Club
  • Apart from the above mentioned activities our centennial year was characterized by the first exchange program for our Rotaract, and the historic visit of our delegation of 22 persons to district 2430 was memorable for each and every one of the participants. The Rotary Club of Yerevan also participated in the historic Conference, “Caucasian Fellowship Days' in Ankara
  • A 12 year old Armenian child has won the First Prize of Zone 10 in the Centennial poster competition.
